Dr. S.Y. Ghodsian is widely recognized as a leader in the field of post and pre bariatric surgery medical care. He is double board certified and has spent years advancing the field of medical, nutritional and psychological care for people suffering from obesity and those having had weight loss surgery. He received his Bachelor degree in Psychology at U.C.L.A. and then went on to The Chicago Medical School to receive his M.D. He performed his internship and residency at U.C.L.A.-V.A. Medical Center and his fellowship training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Over the years, the most respected surgeons in the field of bariatrics have trusted their pre and post operative patients to the care of Dr. S.Y. Ghodsian, including the president of the Society of Bariatric Surgeons. Dr. S.Y. Ghodsian has extensively studied the special nutritional and medical needs of bariatric surgery patients; in fact, he was the first physician to have noted the similar nutritional deficiencies between post bariatric surgery patients and patients with kidney failiure on dialysis.

With his specialized training in the area of bariatrics, nutrition and electrolyte disorders, and his pro active approach toward the health maintenance, Dr. S.Y. Ghodsian has been able to prevent his patients from having many of the chronic medical problems associated with bariatric surgeries. Using his training and understanding of Psychology, Dr. S.Y. Ghodsian is able to provide strong emotional and motivational counseling to address the underlying psychological needs of his bariatric patients, thus treating the mind as well as the body. In addition to maintaining the health of bariatric patients, Dr. S.Y. Ghodsian personally works with each patient to ensure that he or she will lose the maximum amount of weight possible after surgery and then helps his patients to maintain the weight off for a lifetime. Thus, his patients avoid the frustration and anguish of losing weight after surgery only to gain it back in the long run.
