Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery
The surgery is typically performed on patients who are too heavy to have other types of weight loss surgeries with the expectation that a second surgery will be performed once weight has been lost. This surgery provides an opportunity to lose enough weight to have a more radical surgery done once their body size will allow it. For patients with less weight to lose, this procedure does not produce the same levels of weight loss as other types of bariatric surgery. During this procedure, the surgeon creates a small, sleeve-shaped stomach, about the size of a banana.
If your BMI is greater than 60, you may want to discuss this option with Dr. S.Y. Ghodsian. If you are a candidate for this surgery, and if the surgery will help you, then Dr. S.Y. Ghodsian will refer you to an expert who performs this procedure.
